[How I Wear] Zara Batwing Sweater Review

I first saw this sweater appear in a recent SRJ video - when she said it was "as soft as cashmere, but only $39" I was sold. I bought my first one (a buttery oatmeal shade) roughly a week ago. After wearing it once, I was desperate for the other colors. Yesterday I went into Zara (again) on my lunch break and picked up the soft grey you see below.

Zara Light Grey Batwing Sweater Review

Link here (you need every color)

It really is one of the softest sweaters I've ever owned - at any price. The batwing (and we're talking serious wing here - it extends from the waist to the armhole) keeps it feeling modern, and the fabric (a roughly 50/25/25 blend of viscose, nylon and polyester) is divinely cozy.

Ultra-flattering neckline? Check.

Drapes beautifully? Check.

Hides a protruding stomach after a big meal? Check (this one's important to me).

Zara Light Grey Batwing Sweater Review

I'm wearing a medium here, which fits perfectly, but you can also size up if you want more of a baggy, beachy vibe. It looks great with one side pulled down, exposing just enough collarbone to ride the 'bardot top' trend-wave that's happening right now.

I paired it with my favorite black skinny jean-stretchy-legging-things (Joe's - link here - a staple for anyone over 5'9"), black suede booties (Ivanka Trump, my guilty shoe pleasure - link) and my favorite bucket bag (Mansur Gavriel - link). In case you're curious, the necklace is from Forever21. I get compliments on it constantly, which makes me feel a little guilty considering it was probably around $6.

Yes, the outfit is as basic as basic gets, but we're going for function over form here people.

I do think the sweater would look just as good tucked into a pencil or midi skirt, making it ridiculously functional and the excuse for why I will probably buy the third color (just as soon as it comes back in stock).

Cool Toned Makeup Look

I tend to gravitate towards more warm tones in my makeup, so I love dressing in cool greys - it forces me to break out of my beauty comfort zone. I went with a steely lilac eye, a soft plum lip and cool pink cheeks. I needed a little extra oomph so I also plopped on some cheap KISS lashes (link here). Very comfy with a lovely thin band, so if you're a lash wearer check these out.

On my face:

  • YSL Fusion Ink Foundation + LA Girl Pro Concealer + Benefit Agent Zero Shine Powder
  • Laura Mercier Ritual Bronzer + NARS Desire + MAC New Romance Mineralize Blush
  • Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Palette + Rouge Bunny Rouge 'Delicate Hummingbird' on lid
  • Benefit They're Real! + KISS 03 lashes
  • LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Blushing (tapped on very lightly, though it looks gorgeous slathered on as well)
I've been stalking the Zara site more than usual this season, and this is definitely one of their better offerings. You honestly can't beat the fit, feel or price ($39!!). If your size is still in stock - go for it! And buy these gold booties while you're at it.

    1. Hi Nhung! Mine is made in China. Does your sweater have the fabric blend listed? Mine is 47% viscose, 28% nylon and 25% polyester. If yours is too it's probably the same.
