[Day 31] No-Buy Update: Do you quit or stick with it?

This post is embarrassing. Typing this is embarrassing. I thought that throwing myself into the Internet spotlight and proclaiming my penny-pinching virtue to the world would help me stop shopping but...it didn't.

I mean, I guess it did a little bit. I've definitely cut back. But I've bought...oh, I've bought. And I don't feel good about it.

To back up a little bit, I made a video update last week on Day 26. You can watch that video here:

In it I talk about the two (well, really 3) purchases I made. Back at the end of Week 1 (!!!) caved and I bought two things from the Zara sale - a pair of fringed boyfriend-esque jeans (what are we calling cropped flared-but-not-really distressed denim? I can't keep track) that are going back and a black and white striped blouse.

These look crazy and give me a 26 inch crotch.

Meanwhile, this looks amazing and fits like a dream.

I also picked up a (much needed) pair of new running shoes. Those I'm not so guilty about. And breaking down at the epic bi-annual Zara sale? Also not the worst thing.

But this past week kind of broke me. Work has been incredibly stressful and the urge to shop has been strong, man. I react to stress in a lot of negative ways (but at least its nothing illegal, right?) I've been having some late nights and trouble sleeping, which led to ---> ASOS website. Dangerous. I stalk their 'New In' section like a troubled teenage boy.

Little did I know a casual sub-$150 ASOS purchase would lead to the mother of all designer bag hauls.

I won't reveal it just yet, but I found an incredibly priced, well loved bag on the annual GOOP Celebrity Closet sale - and just like that, I was hitting the buy button. Part of me still can't believe I did it, but when you find a pre-loved bag at an insane price and the proceeds go to charity...you buy.

I'd like to say it was a whimsical, spur-of-the-moment purchase but it's a piece I've had my eye on for a long time, and by far my favorite style of bag from the design house. I'm not going to shame myself for it, because I have the money and I love handbags. I'll share more when I receive it. I'm sure lots of photos will be taken.

Back to the no-buy...a big part of me wants to say fuck it and end the damn thing, but when I realized I'm only on Day 31, I knew had to keep going. I have one month left, and I'm going to start these remaining days with a clean slate. As long as I can stay away from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It's tempting me waaaayy more than it has in years prior. Anyone else feel that way too?

Here's to new beginnings in the middle of a project. Wish me luck and a fat wallet.
