Weekly Beauty News Round Up | Vol 1

Greetings, beauty readers :) I've realized recently just how voracious I am when it comes to beauty content. Facts, news, stories...doesn't matter if it's in blog form, on my Instagram feed or via YouTube. I devour it all and am constantly looking for more. For any other beauty-news aficionados I thought I'd (try to!) post a weekly round up of some of the better beauty things I've seen/watched/read/listened to on the internet lately. Here goes:

Fat Mascara Interviews Mary Schook (ep. #34)

I look forward to this awesome podcast from Jess Goldstein and Jessica Matlin each week. Two high-powered beauty editors dish about beauty news and trends weekly and always interview industry veterans to close the show. In last week's episode they spoke to Mary Schook, a "beauty engineer" (new to me) who blew my mind. Her take on lasers (spoiler alert: heat = always bad), innovators in China and Vitamin C had me taking notes on my iPhone while walking to work.

How the World Buys Luxury Makeup

Interesting snippet on Dior's product innovation process and launching beauty products on a large scale globally. Big brands like Dior often concept 18 months before products go to market, and can't weigh too heavily on trends to guarantee successful launches. Very different from the digital darlings we're seeing gain momentum, like Colourpop (SEED Beauty) and Jeffree Star.

Bathtime with January Jones is a Chic Affair

Violet Grey chronicles Jones' lavish soaking rituals, which include a $172 scrub and a $33 handcrafted detangling comb. There are also a few luxe photos of January bathing in her jewelry and offering advice on water temperature. Sleepy beauty journalism, but we could all be so lucky.

Refinery 29's Beauty Innovator Awards Have Arrived

Among them: the aforementioned Fat Mascara podcast, an Oribe fave that's not the dry texturizing spray (gasp!) and Pat McGrath labs. I don't see anything on the list that downright angers me - lots of interesting product picks and shout-outs to some of my faves. Though I will admit the mascara category left me very perplexed. Sisley, Burberry and Bare Minerals? Say what?

Exfoliating, Explained

Excellent ITG article on the differences (and benefits) on various ways of sloughing off dead skin. While I myself am definitely a chemical girl, I secretly love a really gritty scrub. Due to issues with one's sacred acid mantle I rarely indulge, but that doesn't mean I don't hide a bottle of Dr. Brandt's Poredermabrasion Scrub under my skin for indulgences.
