Weekly Beauty News Round Up | #5

Welcome back! (I'm talking to myself)

It's been more than awhile since I've posted one of these but I'm still soldiering on. You know I love beauty news and I love sharing it even more.

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have a fabulous 2017!

Bobbi Brown is Leaving Her Brand After 25 Years

The biggest piece of December beauty news for me. While not shocking (and fairly standard for similar mature brands) this was still very surprising, since Bobbi herself has always been so core to the line. I wonder what her non-compete will be, and if she will come back to the beauty game once it's over, a la Jo Malone (another great article! If you're interested in Jo's career I also recommend listening to her interview on the Fat Mascara podcast - episode is 'Purple Mist').

How to Buy Designer Level Makeup for $2

The hot new "brand" on everyone's lips: Beauty Pie. This venture is similar to the Everlane model of radical transparency - their factories produce "high end" makeup in Europe (where all your faves are manufactured) and sell at cost. The catch is you can only buy up to $100 (retail price) each month. The subscription-based model and spending cap helps fend of resellers (smart). I'll definitely be signing up for a subscription soon.

The Great ITG Fall Candle Roundup

Still appropriate for January. If taking time for yourself and relaxing is one of your 2017 resolutions, why not treat yourself to a small piece of luxury? I think this is the year I'm committing to only thoughtful candle purchases (as ridiculously bougie as that sounds). No more wasting $$$ on half-assed scents at B&BW.

Can You Buy Beauty Products at Revolve?

Spoiler alert: yes you can. In an exciting twist of events for the popular online retailer, they've added beauty to their lineup. The majority of the brands sold are all "cool girl" indies (think Herbivore, Smith & Cult, Edward Bess & Kjaer Weiss) including ColourPop. I never expected the latter go wholesale (it seems like their profit margins are already fairly low, despite strong growth) but this is great news for the brand.

These Will Be the Most Influential Beauty Brands of 2017

Not sure I agree with all of these, though the list is fairly accurate. My money isn't on Urban Decay or Tarte - so many of their recent launches don't seem to have the stunning formulations that turn social-media hype into essentials (or award winners). I am looking forward to what Anastasia Beverly Hills, Glossier & Tata Harper have for us in the new year!

Turtleneck: J.Crew (sold out, similar: here) | Jeans: Rag & Bone | Jacket: Madewell |
Loafers: Gucci | Bag: Madewell
