Quick Review: Buxom Plumpline Lip Liners [Confidential + Intrigue]

Buxom Plumpline Lipliner Review Swatches

In truth, these are good-not-great, and I can't for the life of me figure out why so many bloggers are raving about them other than pure PR Hype.

I love chunky lip pencil, don't get me wrong, and this has all the makings of a Danielle-approved lip formula. Impossible to mess up applicator? Check. Secondary brush tool for even further blending, in case I do mess up, which I probably still will? Check. The color selection is also vast and forgiving on paler skin. But the formula.

Buxom Plumpline Lipliners

Ah, the formula. I mean, it's...kind of...important...right?

I understand that creating something that straddles between lipstick and liner will inevitably need to pull in qualities from both product categories in order to work. But this formula is too dry for me to fall in love with. Excellent for lining, yes, but not as good for filling in as the bloggers who received for free would have you believe. They catch on dryness and tend to look very crumbly upon application. Worn under a creamy, moisturizing lipstick we have something a bit better but their staying power is lackluster so using them alone seems to make more sense.

Buxom Plumpline Lipliner Swatch Confidential Intrigue

I picked up two colors, Confidential, a warm creamy pink with a peachy undertone (the peach tones aren't translating in the above photo), and Intrigue, a pinky-coral that I've been searching for to wear under lipsticks this summer (in an exciting turn of events, I found a color that I didn't actually have already). I love the idea of a chunky lipliner as a new product category, however the formula needs to be upgraded (eh, MAC? You listening?) in order for me to want to reach for something like this over my MUFE or Kylie lipliners.

Overall? 6/10. Meh.
